Ada Eliza Stanley was born in 1869 in Kensington, London – the daughter of William Bateman Stanley and Margaret Ann Crewe.
She came to New Zealand with her family in 1872 on the Christian McAusland and they lived at Green Island.
Ada married John Frederick Forrester, a cloth cutter, on 9 February 1889 at the Dunedin Registry Office.
They had four children and when Ada signed the suffrage petition they were living in Grange Street.
In the 1900s they moved to Wellington where Frederick ran a clothing manufacturing business.
He died in Hataitai in 1932 and Ada died in Christchurch on 30 July 1952 – they are buried together in the Karori Cemetery.
