Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Adelaide Ruston was born in 1867 in New Zealand – the daughter of James Ruston, a lighterman, and Selina Bray. (See 154 Selina Ruston)

She married William Fort, a butcher, on 27 June 1889 in Dunedin and they had seven children.

William was declared bankrupt in 1892 and when Adelaide signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Castle St, Dunedin.

She died at Lawrence on 14 May 1909, possible while giving birth to her last child.

She is buried in the Northern Cemetery with one of her sisters.

William re-married in 1920, he died in 1931 - he is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery with his second wife.
