Gertrude Clara Hitch was born in 1866 in New Zealand, the daughter of John Hitch and Jane King.
She married Joseph Ernest Bone, a stationer and bookseller, on December 28th 1887 at her parents’ home in Timaru.
They had three children, one who died in infancy. When Gertrude signed the suffrage petition they were living in Belleknowes, Dunedin.
Joseph died at their home in 1938 and Gertrude died on August 6th 1953. She was cremated and her ashes are buried with Joseph in the family grave in the Green Island Cemetery.
