Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Georgina Burt was born on 23 October 1862 in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland, the daughter of Thomas Cairns Burt and Marion Ramsay.

The family emigrated to Otago about 1870.

Georgina married George Harrox Reid, a watchmaker, on 3 January 1887 at her parent’s home in Walker St, Dunedin. They had three children, one who died in infancy.

When she signed the suffrage petition Georgina was living with her family, including her mother-in–law Alice Reid (who also signed the petition) in Cargill St, Dunedin.

When Georgina and George celebrated their silver wedding anniversary in 1912 they were living in Balclutha.

Georgina died on 16 August 1920 in Invercargill and George died in 1937. They are buried together in the Invercargill Eastern Cemetery.
