Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.

Gertrude Inez Lanauze was born in 1860 in New Zealand – the daughter of Henry Cooke Lanauze, formerly a Captain of the 56th regiment and a clerk, and Leonora Taylor.

Gertrude married Andrew Pinwill, a registrar at the Lands and Deed Office in Dunedin, on 15 September 1887 at St John’s Church, Christchurch.

They had three children. Andrew retired in 1891 and when Gertrude signed the suffrage petition they were living in High St, Dunedin.

Shortly after they moved to Christchurch where Gertrude died at her home on 16 March 1917 and Andrew died in 1925.

They are buried together in the Avonside Anglican Cemetery, Christchurch.
