Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Grace Clark McGregor was born in 1868 in New Zealand – the daughter of John Leckie McGregor, a farmer, and Jean Martin.

Her mother died in 1874 and when Grace signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family at Sandymount on the Otago Peninsula working as a dressmaker.

She married John Twhigg, a clerk, in 1897 and they had five children.

Grace died at their home in Dunedin on 11 July 1923 and John died in Christchurch in 1946, they are buried in the McGregor family grave in the Southern Cemetery, Dunedin.
