Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Grace Mitchell Murray was born on 7 November 1859 in Newlands, Peebleshire, Scotland - the daughter of James Mitchell Murray, a sawyer, and Margaret Todd.
She emigrated to Otago with her family about 1863 and she married Allan Mann, a flour mill owner, in 1877.
They had six children, one who died in infancy, and when Grace signed the suffrage petition the family were living at Woodside on the Taieri Plain.
Allan died at their home in 1929 and Grace died on 22 May 1931, they are buried together in the West Taieri Cemetery.
