Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Helen Fairburn Affleck was born on 25 January 1853 in Haddingtonshire, Scotland – the daughter of Andrew Affleck, a general labourer, and Elizabeth Vallance.

She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1858 on the Jura and they settled in Waikouaiti, north of Dunedin.

Helen married Horace William George Robinson, a surgeon dentist, in 1876.

They had four children and when Helen signed the suffrage petition they were living in Ann St, Roslyn in Dunedin.

About 1920 they retired to Rotorua where Horace died in 1935 – he is buried in the Rotorua Cemetery.

Helen died the following year on 30 August – she is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
