Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Harriet Annie Bevin was born in 1858 in Victoria, Australia – the daughter of John Bevin, a Police Officer, and Annie Costello. (See 95 Mrs J Bevin)

In 1862 Harriet sailed for Otago on the Blue Jacket with her mother and three siblings, presumably her father had gone previously.

The  family settled in Dunedin where Harriet married grocer and publican Alexander Healey in 1880.

They had nine children, two who died in infancy, and when Harriet signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Sydney St, Caversham.

Alexander died in 1922 and Harriet died on 1 June 1935 – they are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
