Hannah Jenkins was born in 1857 in Staffordshire, England – the daughter of Thomas Jenkins, a collier, and Mary Ann Wilkes.
She married George Housley, also a collier, on 14 February 1884 at South Normanton, Derbyshire and they had a daughter later that year.
They emigrated to New Zealand soon after and settled in Brunner where they had another daughter who died in infancy.
George died in 1888 due to ill health – he is buried in the Stillwater Cemetery.
When Hannah signed the suffrage petition she had moved to Dunedin with her daughter and she was living in Walker Street working as a tailoress.
Hannah died at her home in Dunedin on 3 February 1955 – she is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
