Hannah Fitzgerald was born about 1846 in Ireland.
She emigrated to Otago with her husband Peter, a labourer, in 1874 on the Caroline and they settled in North Otago.
In November 1887 a 'benefit concert and dance, in aid of Peter Fitzgerald' was held in the Awamoko schoolroom, Peter died one month later.
Hannah signed the suffrage petition at Ngapara, she died on 17 May 1893 and is buried with Peter in the Georgetown Cemetery.
