Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.

Hannah Elizabeth Scoones was born in 1864 in New Zealand – the daughter of George Scoones, a master mariner, and Mary Ann Irwin. (See 148 M Scoones)

She grew up in Port Chalmers before moving to Dunedin in the 1880’s.

When Hannah signed the suffrage petition she was living with her widowed mother in Castle St working as a dressmaker.

She married Ernest William Isbister, a shipwright, on 14 April 1909 at the Trinity Methodist Church in Dunedin.

Ernest died in 1942 and Hannah died on 31 July 1956 – they are buried in the Isbister family grave in the Port Chalmers Cemetery.
