Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Helen Lauder was born on 25 April 1858 in Edinburgh, Scotland – the daughter of Francis Lauder, a maltman, and Jane Kidd. (See 117 Jane Kidd)
She emigrated to Otago in the late 1870s and she married Richard Bygate Brown, a carpenter, on 17 August 1883 in Dunedin.
They had four children, one who died in infancy, and when Helen signed the suffrage petition they were living in Belleknowes.
Richard died in 1928 and Helen died on 14 November 1945 – they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
