Helen Fulton Gay was born in 1865 in New Zealand – the daughter of George Gay, a ship’s captain, and Margaret Fulton. (See 148 Margt Gay)
Helen’s father was lost at sea in 1877 when his ship the Kate Brain disappeared during a storm.
When she signed the suffrage petition Helen was living in the family home in Castle St, Dunedin.
She married Walter Brodie Galbraith, a labourer, in March 1893 at Mataura.
They had two daughters and lived at Mataura then Gore where Walter died in 1938.
Helen died on 5 December 1955 – they are buried together in the Gore Cemetery.
