Helen McGregor was born about 1835 in Scotland.
She married Donald Grant on May 29th 1861 in Edinburgh, and a few days later they boarded the Pladda en route to Otago as assisted immigrants.
They settled at first in West Taieri where they had four children, one who died in infancy.
They later moved to Waikouaiti, where Helen signed the suffrage petition and they ran a farm.
Helen died on October 11th 1904, and Donald re-married in 1907.
He died in 1924. They are buried with Donald’s second wife in the Waikouaiti Cemetery.
