Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.
Mary Helen Henderson was born in 1867 in Victoria – the daughter of Joshua Henderson & Mary Frances Wilcox.
Her parents appear to have parted company a few years later as Mary & her mother were living on the Otago goldfields by 1871.
Mary married Percy Augustus Hollamby, a miner, on August 28th 1884 at the Registrar’s Office in Lawrence.
They had 3 children & when Mary signed the suffrage petition she was living in Union St, Dunedin while Percy was mining at Miller’s Flat in Central Otago.
In 1904 Mary place an advertisement in an Australian paper enquiring as to Percy’s whereabouts.
He was “supposed to be in New South Wales”, “may be employed at shearing”.
Percy had re-married in New South Wales in 1896 – he died in 1924 and is buried in the Springwood Cemetery, New South Wales.
Mary died on December 15th 1935 in Christchurch – she is buried in the Waimairi Cemetery.
