Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Helen Clark was born about 1852 in Scotland.

She came to New Zealand where she married Alexander Lyon, a ship’s carpenter, on 22 March 1877 in Dunedin.

When she signed the suffrage petition they were living in Carey’s Bay, Port Chalmers.

Alexander died in 1901 when he fell into the hold of a ship he was working on and Helen died at her home on 1 February 1903 – they are buried together in the Port Chalmers New Cemetery.
