Helen McKnight nee McDougall was born in 1857 in Longforgan Perthshire Scotland. In 1880 in Ashburton NZ she married George McKnight of Edinburgh. The couple relocated to Dunedin where George was employed as an engineer for Kempthorne -Prosser. They raised a family of six children. Second son,George McKnight was well known in athletic circles pre WW1 gaining the NZ cross-country title in 1910. Helen died in 1933. It is interesting to see that the names 3 of my Scots connections appear on the roll but none of the English. Were these Scots women possibly more independent thinkers?
