Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Helen Pringle was born in 1866 in the Tokomairiro district, Otago – the daughter of John Pringle, a farmer, and Jane Thornton. (See 80 Jane Pringle)

When Helen signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family at Glenfoot Farm near Milton.

She married Walter Hislop on 13 May 1896 in Milton and they had two daughters.

Walter died in 1899 due to an industrial accident while working at the Bruce Woollen Mills.

Helen remained in Milton – she died there on 19 June 1945 and is buried, presumably with Walter, in the Fairfax Cemetery, Milton.
