Biographical information provided by Briar Barry for the He Tohu exhibition:

Branxholm Park, the address given by sisters Helena and Charlotte, and their mother Isabella Mary Grieve (nee Cully) when they signed the Petition, was their family farm. It was named by Helena and Charlotte’s father and Isabella’s husband, Robert Grieve, after the area he came from in Scotland. Robert was the first settler in the district, an area so isolated at the time that the only communication was by boat on the Oreti River, and a track had to be cut through the bush in order to get cattle to the farm. Journeys between the property and Invercargill took several days.

Helena married Abram Watson on 4 April 1901, and had three children. She died on 18 October 1925, aged 54.
