Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Anna/Annie Drummond Smith was born on 3 January 1835 in Edinburgh, Scotland – the daughter of James Smith, a coach lace maker, and Sophia Smith.

She married William Henderson, a weighbridge keeper about 1861 and they emigrated to Otago shortly afterwards.

They had at least eight children and lived in Duncan St, Dunedin where Anna signed the suffrage petition.

She died at her home on 14 December 1909 and William died in 1917.

They are buried with two of their daughters in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
