Henrietta Cooper Strachan was born in Glasgow, Scotland on 24 February 1866 – the daughter of Charles Strachan and Elizabeth Chalmers. (See 104 Elizabeth H Strachan)
Henrietta emigrated to Otago with her family in 1881 on the Jessie Readman and they settled in Milton where she signed the suffrage petition.
In 1895 the family moved to Timaru – from the 1900s Henrietta worked as a milliner and ladies and children’s outfitter.
In 1928 she went of 'a very enjoyable visit to Great Britain. Miss Strachan spent much of her time in Scotland, and had several weeks sight-seeing in London.'
She died on 1 June 1961 and is buried in the family grave in the Timaru Cemetery.
