Mrs Henrietta McLeod Chester

Henrietta McLeod arrived at Napier on board the Ballarat on 15 September 1872. She was from Ross-shire, Scotland, aged 28, single and her occupation listed as a dairy maid. On board there were also 13 others from Ross-shire.

In 1874 she married John Chester, a carpenter in Taradale, Hawke's Bay. She had two children, Roderick in 1875, and Mary in 1876.

She signed the petition in 1893 in Carterton.

Henrietta died on 9 July 1929 at her daughter’s residence in Hamilton and was buried at Clareville Cemetery in Carterton along with members of her family.
