Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Isabella Hutchison was born about 1835 in Scotland.

She married Alfred Catherwood on 31 December 1858 in Glasgow and they had a son the following year who died in infancy.

They emigrated to Otago in 1860 on the Silistria and had a further six children, one who also died in infancy.

They lived, at first, at Merton north of Dunedin before moving to the Owaka district where Isabella signed the suffrage petition.

Around 1900 Isabella and Alfred moved to Waimatuku, near Riverton, where Isabella died on 20 October 1905 and Alfred died in 1908.

They are buried together in the Invercargill Eastern Cemetery.
