Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Ina Elder Philip was born in 1871 in New Zealand – the daughter of David Waters Philip, a farmer, and Jane Elder.

When Ina signed the suffrage petition she was living in Shag Valley working as a dressmaker.

She married Joseph Parry, a railway guard, on 16 November 1897 in the Palmerston parish and they had three children, one who died in infancy.

The family lived in Wanganui before moving to Invercargill where Joseph died in 1925 and Ina died on 1 July 1954.

They are buried together in the Invercargill Eastern Cemetery.
