Alexandrina/Ina McCallum Swanson was born on 11 March 1867 in Bute, Scotland – the daughter of Sinclair Swanson, a blacksmith, and Margaret Anderson. (See 117 Mrs Swanson)

She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1875 on the Nelson and they settled in Dunedin.

When Ina signed the suffrage petiton she was living with her family in Hawthorne Ave, Mornington working as a dressmaker.

She married David Whyte on 30 January 1895 at the Mornington Presbyterian Church and they had four children.

They lived in Wanganui where David died in 1942.

Ina died on 13 July 1950 in Auckland – she is buried in the Purewa Cemetery.
