Isabel Emma Dawson Blakeley was born 23  December 1868 in Dunedin the third child of John Blakeley, a sail and tent maker, and Isabella Johnston.

Isabel attended Otago Girls High School for at least one year at the age of 16. She married James Hamlin Walker at her father’s house in Maitland St, Dunedin on 27 December 1892.

The couple had five children and her husband James contributed greatly to public life as a City Councillor also serving as Mayor of Dunedin from 1909 to 1910.

Isabel died on 4 June 1956 at her home in Grant St, Dunedin.
