Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Isabella McLean was born about 1863 in New Zealand.

She married John Caley, a farmer, on 24 February 1882 in the Clutha Parish.

They had seven children, one who died in childhood and they lived in Purekireki in the Owaka Valley where Isabella signed the suffrage petition.

John died in 1916 when he fell from his horse and broke his neck – Isabella moved to Dunedin in later life.

She died at her home on 23 August 1943 & is buried with John in the family grave in the Owaka Cemetery.
