Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Isabella Bagrie was born about 1837 in Forgue, Aberdeenshire, Scotland – the daughter of Robert Bagrie, a farmer, and Margaret Duftan.

She emigrated to Otago in 1863 on the City of Dunedin with her widowed mother & siblings – her mother died on the voyage.

Isabella married George Cruickshank on 11 March 1870 in Dunedin – in a double wedding with her widowed sister Janet.

They had four children and farmed at Wairuna in South Otago.

George died in 1878 when their youngest child was two-years-old – shortly after a clearing sale was held.

'Notwithstanding very boisterous weather there was a good attendance, and everything sold at satisfactory prices'.

The farm was advertised for lease in 1887 and Isabella continued to live in Wairuna where she signed the suffrage petition.

Her two sisters also signed the petition (See 110 Maggie Roy and 110 Janet Divers)

Isabella died on 26 May 1930, she is buried in the Clinton Cemetery.
