Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Isabella Cumming was born about 1828 in Fordyce, Banffshire, Scotland – the daughter of William Cumming, a wood merchant, and Isabella Bremner.
After her father’s death in 1866 the majority of Isabella’s family emigrated to New Zealand and settled, at first, in Riverton.
When Isabella signed the suffrage petition she was living in Waikaka Valley, north of Gore, with her brother William.
After her brother’s death Isabella moved to Dunedin with her sister Margaret.
She died at her home in Dunedin on 23 December 1911 - she is buried in the family grave in the Riverton Cemetery.
