Isabella Rodger was born in 1869 in Portobello on the Otago Peninsula - the daughter of William Rodger, a farmer, and Emilia Douglas.

She married Edward Grieg Grainger in 1891 and they had 12 children.

They lived for a time in Kelso in South Otago before moving to Sandymount on the Otago Peninsula where Isabella signed the suffrage petition and Edward worked as a coach proprietor.

Isabella died at their home in Andersons Bay, Dunedin on 19 March 1927 and Edward died in 1944.

They are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
