Isabella Grant was born in 1870 in New Zealand – the daughter of John Grant, a gardener, and Margaret Munro.

When Isabella signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Mornington, Dunedin working as a tailoress.

She married James Duncan, a sadder, in 1896.

Isabella died at her home in Dunedin on 23 November 1947 and James died in 1953 – they are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
