Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Isabella McClosky was born about 1854 in County Antrim, Ireland.

She emigrated to Otago with her sister Mary in 1874 on the Parsee and she married John Herbert Horsburgh, a labourer, on 28 June 1877 in the Milton Parish.

They had five children, one who died in infancy, and when Isabella signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Port Molyneux.

In the 1900s Isabella moved to Dunedin – John appears to have stayed in Southland.

John died in Invercargill in 1928, he is buried in the Invercargill Eastern Cemetery.

Isabella died on 3 August 1938 at her daughter’s home in Dunedin, she is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
