Isabella Allison was born about 1829 in Ireland.

She moved to Scotland where she married Thomas Mayze on 1 March 1852 in Girvan, Ayrshire.

They had eight children before the family emigrated to New Zealand on the Seville in 1864 (see 361 E. J. Fredric). One of their daughters, Seville, was born on board the ship.

The family settled in Invercargill where they had a further five children, two of their children died in infancy.

In 1882 Thomas, who was working as a drayman, died when his horse bolted & his neck was broken.

When Isabella signed the suffrage petition she was living in Jackson Street, Invercargill.

She died on 22 June 1908 and is buried with Thomas in the Invercargill Eastern Cemetery.
