Isabella Phillips was born about 1815 in Scotland.
She married William McHutcheson, an excise officer, on 6 March 1834 in Greenock, Renfrewshire.
They lived in Stirlingshire, Argyllshire and Buteshire and they had 11 children.
The family emigrated to Christchurch in 1862, moving to Oamaru in the early 1890s where Isabella signed the suffrage petition.
Isabella died at their home 'Struan Lodge' on 7 June 1899 and William died in 1905, they are buried together in the Oamaru Cemetery.
