Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.
Isabella Irvine was born about 1837 in Roxburghshire, Scotland – the daughter of Richard Irvine, an agricultural labourer, and Mary Common.
She married Andrew Ternent on 22 January 1858 in Galashiels, Selkirkshire and they had a son before they emigrated to Otago later that year on the “Gloucester”.
They settled in Dunedin where they had a further eight children and Andrew worked as a storeman.
When Isabella signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Dundas Street.
Isabella died at her home on 19 September 1906 & Andrew died in 1910 – they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
