Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Isabella Thomson was born about 1847 in Keith, Banffshire, Scotland – the daughter of William Thomson, a farm servant, and Isabella Cowie.

Isabella came to New Zealand and married James White, an engine driver, in 1880 in Christchurch.

They had six children and lived, at first, in Oamaru before moving to Bluff where Isabella signed the suffrage petition.

Isabella died at her home on 25 August 1915 and James died in 1928, they are buried in the family grave in the Bluff Cemetery.
