Jennie/Jean Burns was born in 1863 in New Zealand – the daughter of Mary Burns. (See 98 Mrs Boyd)

Shortly after her birth her mother married James Boyd and five half - brothers and sisters were born.

When Jean signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in North Taieri Rd, Dunedin.

She married John Reid, a wheelwright, at her parent’s home in November 1897.

Jean and John lived near Lyndhurst in Canterbury and had five children.

John died in 1909 and is buried in the Methven Cemetery.

Jean died on 2 December 1942 in the Christchurch Hospital, she is buried in the Rangiora East Belt Cemetery.
