Janet was born about 1825 in Scotland.
In 1857 she emigrated to Otago on the Maori with her husband John Craig and their five children.
They lived in Dunedin for five years before settling at Goodwood in North Otago where they had a further four children.
John died at their home “Old Halls” at Goodwood in 1884.
When Janet signed the suffrage petition she was still at Goodwood.
She died at her home on April 13th 1908. She is buried with John in the Palmerston Cemetery.
