Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jessie Fleming Fraser was born in New Zealand in 1867 – the daughter of Robert Gowie Fraser, a baker, and Helen Carmichael.

When she signed the suffrage petition Jessie was living at the Mornington Manse in Dunedin working as a housemaid.

She married James Thomas Everitt, a farmer and widower with three children, on 28 October 1902 at the St Paul’s Manse, Oamaru. They were married by Rev R J Porter, previously from the Mornington Parish.

Jessie had no children and she died on 30 September 1918. Her place of burial could not be found.
