Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jessie Gray was born in Rosshire, Scotland about 1840 – possibly the sister of Catherine Finlayson and the daughter of Wililam Gray, a farmer. (See 54 Catherine Finlayson

She emigrated to Otago in 1872 on the May Queen the same ship as the Finlayson family.

When Jessie signed the suffrage petition she was living in Hanover St, Dunedin, possibly with her sister Catherine.

Jessie married Stephen Kimber, an 84-year- old widower, on 28 January 1895 in Christchurch.

Stephen died in Lower Riccarton in 1911 and Jesse appears to have moved back to Dunedin.

She died on 11 May 1925 and is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
