Jane/Jeannie Houston Sparrow was born on 5 May 1871 in Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland – the daughter of John Sparrow, an engine driver, and Ann Dick.
She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1874 on the Mairi Bhan, and settled in Dunedin.
When Jeannie signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Hyde St, Dunedin.
She married James Chrystal Morton Mallach, a boot salesman, in 1906 and they had one son.
James died at his home in London St, Dunedin in 1935 and Jeannie died on 19 May 1961, they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
