Jane Ann Wakefield was born about 1838 in Suffolk, England – the daughter of John Wakefield, an agricultural laboruer, and Margaret.
She married Charles Philip Little, mariner then butcher, in 1859 and they had eight children, four who died in infancy, before the family emigrated to Westland in 1876 on the Howrah.
Their last child, Alice Mary was born in 1878 – she died in 1885.
When Jane signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Cobden, near Greymouth.
Jane died on 17 August 1898 and Charles died in 1908 – they are buried in the Karoro Cemetery.
