Janet Ferguson was born in 1871 in New Zealand – the daughter of Robert Ferguson, a saw sharpener, and Margaret. She married Andrew Gordon McDowell, an expressman, in 1893 and they had four children.
The family lived in London St, Dunedin, then later in Cumberland St.
Andrew died in 1914 and Janet died on 23 November 1950, and they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
