Janet Telfer was born in 1859 in New Zealand – the daughter of David Telfer, a farmer, and Jane Graham Johnstone.
She grew up on the Otago Peninsula where she married William Frederick Monson, a carpenter, on 20 August 1880 at her parents’ home.
They had six children and when Janet signed the suffrage petition they were living in Stafford St, Dunedin.
William died in 1909 and Janet died on 6 September 1942 at Company Bay Rest Home, they are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
