Jane Martin was born on 22 March 1857 in the Tokomairiro district – the daughter of Edward Martin, a farmer, and Ann Reid.
She married William Moore, a storekeeper, on 23 December 1879 and they had five children.
The family lived at Clarksville until 1884 when they moved to Milton where Jane signed the suffrage petition.
William died at their home in 1933 and Jane died on 12 October 1935, they are buried together in the Fairfax Cemetery, Milton.
Her obituary said 'in her younger days Mrs Moore was a prominent figure in the social and public life of Milton. She was a staunch supporter and active worker in the interests of the Tokomairiro Presbyterian Church.'
