Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.

Jessie Sievwright was born on 19 March 1868 in Kirriemuir, Angus, Scotland – the daughter of David Burnet Sievwright, a shoemaker, and Helen Grant.

She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1875 on the “Oamaru” and they settled in Balclutha.

When Jessie signed the suffrage petition she was living in Waimate working as a milliner.

She later moved to Gisborne where she was living when she married farmer and widower, William Langlands Scott on 26 April 1926.

They lived in Oamaru where William died in 1953 and Jessie died on 15 January 1954 – they are buried together in the Oamaru Cemetery.
