Jane Adam was born about 1826 in Perthshire, Scotland. 

She married, widower, Linus Hubble on 2 August 1858 in Mickleover, Derbyshire. 

They had four children before Linus died in 1868. 

In 1871 the family were living in Derbyshire and Jane was working as a district nurse. 

In 1880 Jane, accompanied by two of her children, sailed for Victoria, Australia on the Chimborazo.  

By 1883 they were in New Zealand where Jane’s daughter married in Wellington. 

When she signed the suffrage petition Jane was living in Anderston in Roslyn, Dunedin. 

She died there on 9 November 1899 and is buried with two of her grandchildren in the Northern Cemetery.
