Jane Taylor was born about 1835 in Scotland.
She married Peter Bell on May 28th 1858 in Berwickshire, and shortly after they boarded the Jura for their voyage to Otago.
They settled in the Waikouaiti district in the 1870s and had six sons.
Peter died at their home in 1890, and when Jane signed the suffrage petition she was still at Waikouaiti.
She died at her home on June 7th 1910 and she is buried with Peter in the family grave in the Waikouaiti Cemetery.
