Jane was born about 1830, possibly in Scotland and she was married to William Boyle.

In 1858 she travelled to Melbourne, Australia with her three children on the Champion of the Seas, her occupation is given as matron.

The family came to New Zealand in the mid 1860s and another two children were born in the 1870s.

When Jane signed the suffrage petition she was living in Hanover St, Dunedin.

She died at her home on 27 March 1905 and is buried with her family in the Northern Cemetery.
